2017 State of Grand Tour Committee Report

Happy New Years to all from all of us at the Grand Tour Committee.

In 2017 the Grand Tour Committee has a couple new members, Perry Lewin (Ab3) as Chairman, Tom Hoedjes (Switzerland 1) as European assistant, and Roger van Kollenburg (Aus5) as Australia/New Zealand assistant.

We would like to take a moment and thank Henry Heidmen for his 18 years of dedication to the Grand Tour Program!

Please have patience with us as we learn our new roles, we also ask for any recommendations for making the Grand Tour Program better. I would like to find ways to increase participation, completion of Tours, and Tour Masters.

Many safe and happy miles ahead,

Perry Lewin
Grand Tour Committee Chairman

2016 Grand Tour Year End Report

Thank you to everyone who participated in Grand Tour this year. It was a good year

In 2016 we had another decline in numbers of members participating (8%) although the total number of Tours completed was up slightly. This year 322 members and guests completed 541 Tours. Of those, 298 were Chapter Members, 5 were MALs and 19 were Guests.

Completed Year End Grand Tour Report 2016
Grand Tour 132
Red Knights Tour 97
Fire Station Tour 100
12 Station Tour 163
Alphabet Tour 49

(11 members of PA 39 on their marathon 5 Tour weekend in June)

We have 46 new Gran Tour Masters (up 5 from 2015). We now have a total of 212 Grand Tour Masters, 9 of whom have completed all 5 Tours twice, 2 who have completed them 3 times, 2 (James & Amy Gilliland of PA Chapter 24)  who have completed them 4 times and 1 (Neville McKenzie of Australia Chapter 6) who has completed the Grand Tour master requirements 5 times.

On the weekend of June 10,  11 and 12, eleven members of PA chapter 39 completed all five Tours by riding 1270 miles in 62 hours with 54 hours of seat time. In 2016 I spent a total of 148 hours & 30 minutes on Grand Tour administration which works out to 12 hours and 23 minutes per month.

This will be the last report I will write for Grand Tour. As of January 1, 2017 Perry Lewin of Alberta chapter 3 will be the new Chairman of the Grand Tour Committee. I have thoroughly enjoyed serving you for the last 18 years but feel that it is time for Grand Tour to move on with new blood, new ideas and perhaps some new Tours.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Respectfully Submitted

Henry Heideman
